Pursuing God

According to world news last in Japan, more than 25,000 people took their own lives. Approximately 70 persons every day and huge number were men. The reasons why they commit suicide are frustration, loss of hope, dissolved in depression, fear, jobless and many other more. The question is how are we going to build an intimate relationship with God in spite of countless struggles we face daily?

There’s lot of option in dealing problems: we can chose to face it all by ourselves or call a friend, run from it or ask the Lord to help us. In book of 2 Chronicles when King Jehoshaphat of Judah heard that a vast army from Edom is coming. He resolved to inquire of the Lord and declared fasting. All people came to seek help from God. As he said, “…for we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are unto You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)

The reality remains that as human we are all surrounded not by armies but worries in life and mountains of problem at home, school or sometimes in church. But we can confidently count on God because He is just a prayer away. “The more you pray the less you’ll panic. The more you worship, the less you worry, you’ll feel more patient and less pressure. “(Rick Warren)

(1) Pursuing God takes a lot of FAITH- In Mark 5, there’s a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. For long years she had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, money, time and effort she invested it yet instead of getting better she grew worse. But she doesn’t give up, instead when she heard about Jesus, how He preached, how He turned water into wine and how He cured the paralysis, she go outside her house once again and came up behind Jesus in the crowd. She touched His cloak thinking, “If I touch His clothes I will be healed.” The woman faith is out of ordinary so immediately she felt the bleeding stopped. When Jesus realized that power gone out of him He asked who have touched him. Noticed how she caught the attention of the Lord? She doesn’t cry out, she does make no sounds; she had nothing to notice but her faith. Always remember, “Faith in Christ is the only access to be with Him.”

(2) Pursuing God takes a lot of PATIENCE– It easy to pursue God when everything is going as we expected. But have you ever been in difficult situation and when you seek the Lord, He had no answer? He seems deaf and you feel like He is not available during the hour of your depression. It is painful for us.  But always be reminded that God sees you, He knows you and He feels you. In Psalm 42:5 King David encouraged himself, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your Hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, My Savior my God.” Don’t rush. God never rest on working in your life. As cliché says, “Lot of things happened behind the scene.” Consider that it is difficult to be patient but to waste the reward for patience is worse. There are blessings that wait for us, we just keep on trusting on Him.

(3)Pursuing God takes a lot of TIME– God spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. (Hebrew 4:7-11) In building intimate relationship with God we must maintain our time in God. Sometimes it is easy for us to be destructed by our schedules and due projects without considering that God is waiting for your personal time with Him; it easy for us to sacrifice our time with the Lord just to accomplish our daily task. But God demand your effort, your whole time and strength. Once an author wrote, “Whether the weather be fine, Or whether the weather be not, Whether the weather be cold, Or whether the weather be hot, We’ll weather the weather, Whatever the weather, Whether we like it or not.” LOVE IS EXPRESSED BY OBEDIENCE, BUT LOVE IS DEVELOPED BY TIME WE SPENT WITH GOD. The longer we spend time with Him the more we developed a good relationship in Him.

No one knows the exact reason why we’re going in difficulties of life, why are faith is being refine with fire but one thing I realize, those circumstances are designed so we can be intimated with Him. The purpose of God is far more than what our mind can conceive so whenever you feel like giving up, trust God. He is in charge of your life.
